He Is Most Worthy of Praise

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength . . .  For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place .  . .  Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.  1 Chronicles 16: 8 -12; 25 – 27; 34

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! On this special day, with grateful hearts, we pause to give thanks to God for being the loving God He is and for giving us the blessings of life.

In this beautiful passage recorded in the book of 1 Chronicles, called “David’s Psalm of Thanks” David eloquently reminds us that we are to always be thankful before God – not just on this day, but every day. In gratitude and praise, we are to call upon His name and make known the wonders of His love. We are to share with others the wonderful things he has done in our lives, in our families, in our churches, and in our world. In awe and gratitude for all His goodness to us, we should glorify His name and sing songs of praise for the gift of His Son and His saving grace. We should seek His presence with all our hearts, rejoice in the strength, mercy, and hope He gives, and celebrate His great majesty and everlasting love.

How often we fail to acknowledge Him and give Him praise. How “ungraciously” we often accept His gifts – even taking for granted that they will always be present and will come to us in abundance each and every day. But may we never forget what a great love our Father has for us and how much praise He so richly deserves. May we always be grateful for the blessings He gives.

These words say it all: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”

 Prayer

Our most gracious Lord, thank you for this beautiful Thanksgiving Day and for the opportunity to spend it with those we love. May it be a reminder to lift our hearts to you in praise every day for the gift of life and all its many blessings.  We give you all honor, praise, and glory. Amen.
